PepsiCo Nigeria expansion accelerates with Cheetos launch, boosting jobs, local production, and economic growth through strategic partnerships

PepsiCo Nigeria expansion took a bold step forward with the official launch of Cheetos, one of the company’s most beloved global snack brands, now being produced locally at its newly expanded manufacturing facility in Lagos, Nigeria.

This milestone signals more than just a new product on shelves — it represents a powerful move to strengthen local food production, deepen economic impact, and build sustainable supply chains in West Africa.

The launch of Cheetos in Nigeria, in two flavours – Cheese and Coconut – marks a strategic push by PepsiCo to localise global brands, meet local consumer preferences, and increase accessibility.

With the snacks now produced on Nigerian soil, the brand joins Lay’s and Doritos in PepsiCo’s expanding local portfolio.

This expansion was made possible through a strategic partnership with DP World, which supports PepsiCo’s value chain from manufacturing to distribution.

PepsiCo has already invested over $20 million USD in its Nigerian Foods business, and this latest move cements its long-term commitment to the country.

“Nigeria is PepsiCo’s most integrated market with DP World,” said Ajit Nair, MD of FMCL Nigeria. “This Cheetos launch showcases the strength of that collaboration.”

The launch aligns with Nigeria’s economic reform goals. Finance Minister Wale Edun praised the investment, saying:

“Producing Cheetos for Nigeria and West Africa proves we are becoming a true manufacturing hub. This investment drives our goals of job creation, diversification, and sustainable growth.”

PepsiCo’s impact goes beyond snacks. Through its Safe Water Access Program, over 54,000 people have gained access to clean water, and 800,000+ have been reached through hygiene education.

Women in Lagos are being trained as mechanics to maintain water systems, creating long-term community resilience.

“Cheetos isn’t just a snack — it’s a sign of what’s possible when we invest locally,” said Felix Enwemadu, GM of PepsiCo Foods Nigeria.
