Nigeria Customs contraband seizure in Ogun worth ₦1.4bn includes luxury cars, rice, cannabis, and tyres in border crackdown.

Nigeria Customs contraband seizure efforts reached a new high in Ogun State as the Ogun 1 Area Command announced the interception of smuggled goods valued at an astonishing ₦1,401,531,923.95.

This significant bust, which underscores the Customs Service’s aggressive stance against economic sabotage, was revealed by Comptroller Godwin Otunla during a press briefing held at Idiroko on Thursday.

Among the seized items were:

  • Three exotic vehicles, including a 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost worth ₦905 million
  • 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice
  • 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa
  • 105 used tyres

The Rolls-Royce Ghost alone accounts for over 64% of the total duty-paid value of the seizures. Other vehicles included a 2014 Formatic Benz (₦21.4 million) and a 2018 Honda End of Discovery (₦32.2 million).

“The command will not relent in its crackdown against economic saboteurs,” Otunla stated firmly.

In addition to the seizures, the command generated ₦45,054,191 in revenue in July 2025, a 27.47% increase compared to July 2024.

This revenue growth was credited to increased compliance, enhanced border monitoring, and stronger engagement with stakeholders.

Otunla also stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration.

The seized cannabis was officially handed over to the NDLEA’s Idiroko Special Command, led by Commander Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and enforcement actions.

“No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics,” Otunla warned smugglers.

The comptroller praised the dedication and resilience of his officers, along with the support of sister security agencies and patriotic community members whose intelligence sharing remains invaluable.
