Defamation Case Against Ruth Agbukor emerges as lawyers demand retraction of false claims linking her Ghana trip to government sponsorship

Defamation Case Against Ruth Agbukor has surfaced after the popular social media influencer and content creator, through her solicitors, issued a strong legal warning over allegations made on X (formerly Twitter) linking her to government sponsorship.

In a letter addressed to the publisher of the post dated August 25, 2025, Agbukor’s lawyers described the publication as misleading, vulgar, and unscrupulous, claiming it sought to tarnish her personal and professional integrity.

The controversial post had alleged that Agbukor’s recent trip to Ghana was funded by the Nigerian government to justify plans to raise Value Added Tax (VAT) from 7.5% to 10%.

It further implied that her comments comparing Ghanaian and Nigerian fuel prices were politically motivated.

Her solicitors, however, clarified that the trip was a private summer vacation fueled by her passion for travel and cultural diversity, not a “gig” sponsored by any government.

They stressed that Agbukor is known for her fairness, credibility, and professionalism in addressing both local and national issues.

“As a professional investigative journalist, one would expect diligence in verifying claims before publication,” the letter stated, adding that the post had lowered their client’s standing among “right-thinking persons” and discredited her work as a content creator.

The legal team warned that the publication was actionable in law and demanded that the journalist either provide concrete proof of the allegation or retract the post immediately to avoid liability.

They further urged restraint from publishing content capable of injuring Agbukor’s brand, noting that reputation remains a cornerstone of her career.

The lawyers concluded on a firm but professional note: “While anticipating your positive reaction, please accept the assurances of our esteemed professional regard.”

The dispute underscores the increasing tension between influencers and digital commentators in an era where reputations can be powerfully shaped—or destroyed—by a single post.
