ICAN Ikorodu Chairman Samuel Ayeni pledges to uphold examination standards, grow enrollment, and promote ethics and technology in the institute

ICAN Ikorodu Chairman, Samuel Ayeni, has been officially inaugurated as the 12th chairman of the Ikorodu District Society of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), with a renewed call for members to uphold the institute’s professional ethics and world-class examination standards.

The investiture ceremony, held recently, marked not just a leadership transition but a reaffirmation of ICAN’s enduring values of professionalism, integrity, and service, according to Planning Committee Chairman, Kareem Adegoke.

In his inaugural address, Ayeni pledged to preserve the uncompromised integrity of ICAN’s examinations, describing them as a benchmark for other institutions in Nigeria and beyond.

“ICAN has been a beacon of excellence, a standard-bearer of ethics, and a bridge to global practices,” Ayeni stated.

“The baton of leadership handed to me is a challenge to move the district—and by extension, the institute—to greater heights.”

Ayeni also revealed strategic goals for the coming year, including:

  • Increasing candidate enrollment at the Ikorodu examination centre
  • Deepening partnerships with learning centres
  •  Promoting accurate financial record keeping
  •  Establishing stronger links with corporate organisations through visitations and collaborations

These initiatives, Ayeni said, aim to grow the district’s impact while maintaining ICAN’s reputation for excellence.

The event also featured remarks from the ICAN National President, who emphasized the institute’s role in fostering financial accountability and transparency in Nigeria.

He cited tools like the ICAN Accountability Index, designed to evaluate public finance management across government entities.

Vice Chairman Kareem Adegoke added that new training programmes are being developed, covering areas such as social responsibility, record keeping, and stakeholder engagement.

Deputy Vice Chairman Ayinde Samuel commended ICAN’s proactive response to local and global economic changes, noting the institute’s involvement in ongoing tax reforms as a sign of its dynamic leadership.

Ayeni concluded by urging members to embrace technological innovation, stating that the profession must evolve alongside the digital economy to remain relevant and effective.

“Technology is no longer optional. As accountants, we must be data-driven, agile, and globally competitive,” he said.
