Nigerian students embrace AI as Google reveals a 200% surge in searches linking artificial intelligence with study support across key subjects

Nigerian students embrace AI like never before, according to new Google Search data released on Tuesday, as schools reopen nationwide.

The data reveals a dramatic 200% increase in searches combining AI and studying compared to 2024—clear evidence that students are integrating artificial intelligence into their learning routines.

Google reported a sharp rise in interest across various academic subjects, with “AI + chemistry” up 50%, and both “AI + maths” and “AI + languages” growing by 30%.

Even grammar-focused searches involving AI climbed by 20%, highlighting the widespread application of AI in classroom and self-directed learning.

Popular Google queries such as “What is the best AI in the world for solving mathematical problems?” and “How to use AI to solve math problems” suggest that students are not just curious—they’re actively using AI as a study partner.

Olumide Balogun, Google’s Director for West Africa, stated that Nigerian students are engaging AI not merely for shortcuts but to deepen their understanding of complex topics.

“They’re using it to learn, not just to find answers,” Balogun explained.

“We’re seeing an exciting shift where students are leveraging AI to gain confidence and insight in their studies.”

Outside academics, AI-related curiosity is growing fast. Searches such as “how to use AI” and “what is the full meaning of AI” jumped 80%, while “who is the father of AI” increased by 70%, reflecting broadening interest across the general population.

Meanwhile, searches for “AI detection” skyrocketed by 290%, signaling growing awareness around academic integrity and responsible usage—a topic gaining traction among educators and students alike.

Google also highlighted a surge in career-oriented searches, particularly around “Generative AI” and “professional certification.”

This trend shows that young Nigerians are positioning themselves for a tech-driven job market, building relevant skills and exploring new learning pathways.

“It’s not just about school anymore. Students are thinking long-term—how AI can help them succeed in life and career,” Balogun noted.

Google confirmed that AI-related searches in Nigeria reached an all-time high in 2025, rising 60% year-over-year.

The data confirms that artificial intelligence is fast becoming an educational mainstay in the country.

As tools like AI tutors, language assistants, and math-solving apps become more widely accessible, Nigerian students embrace AI as both a study aid and a career catalyst—transforming how a new generation learns and prepares for the future.
