Kano crash

NDLEA Cannabis Recovery Kano intercepts 112kg of cannabis after crash on Zaria-Kano highway. Driver arrested and investigation underway.

NDLEA Cannabis Recovery Kano made a significant narcotics bust following a road accident on the Zaria-Kano expressway, seizing 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa weighing a total of 112 kilograms.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, reported the incident occurred early on September 6 at Gadar Tamburawa, when operatives on patrol heard a collision involving a Volkswagen Golf and a truck.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, officers swiftly moved to the crash site and extricated the occupants from the damaged Golf.

While attempting to flee, the passenger was apprehended.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered the cannabis haul, believed to be linked to ongoing trafficking activities.

The driver, currently receiving medical treatment, confessed to representing the consignor and admitted to similar deliveries within and outside Kano.

The driver also revealed attempts to evade NDLEA checkpoints by using unauthorized one-way routes — a violation that contributed to the collision.

Mr. Muhammad-Maigatari emphasized that the crash involved two offenses: reckless one-way driving and drug trafficking.

Under the leadership of State Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the Kano NDLEA command is pursuing prosecution against those involved.

He lauded the quick, professional actions of the patrol officers in rescue, arrest, and recovery operations, attributing their effectiveness to the strong leadership of NDLEA Chairman Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.).

The agency calls on the public to assist by reporting suspicious drug trafficking activities and urges all to desist from involvement in narcotics trade.
