Anambra Second Airport claim dismissed as false by the state government, clarifying that recent AMIC site visit was for technical investigations only
In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, said there are no current plans to construct a second airport in the state.

He explained that the confusion likely arose following a recent site visit to the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC).
Mefor clarified that the visit was specifically for technical investigations aimed at determining the most suitable locations for possible future transport systems—such as railways or an airport—within the AMIC master plan.
The government wishes to categorically state that the report is false and at best speculative,” the statement read.
“Whether or not a railway and an airport should be built to service AMIC has not been decided, and any such decision will be communicated through official channels.”
The government stressed that Governor Charles Soludo’s Urban Renewal Plan prioritises multimodal transport systems to ensure long-term economic and infrastructural sustainability.
The AMIC project, covering 4,000 hectares, integrates a pharmaceutical hub, a global-standard urban city, innovation centres, education and medical facilities, tourism, business districts, and housing clusters, all designed to drive industrialisation and sustainable growth.

Citizens were urged to disregard the false report and rely only on official government announcements regarding major projects in the state.
