Atiku instigates anarchy

Atiku instigates anarchy with his remarks on hunger and unrest, says APC, accusing him of recklessness and degrading his former vice-presidential status

Atiku instigates anarchy—that’s the explosive accusation levelled by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against the former Vice President, following his recent remarks comparing Nigeria’s current economic and security challenges to conditions that led to historic revolutions.

In a bold and strongly-worded statement issued in Abuja, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, criticised Atiku Abubakar’s commentary as “reckless, irresponsible, unbefitting, and degrading to his status as former Vice President.”

Atiku had warned that the worsening hunger and insecurity in Nigeria could spark a violent revolution, drawing comparisons to the French and Russian Revolutions as well as the Arab Spring.

While he framed it as a critique of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, APC says the statement goes far beyond criticism and borders on incitement.

Morka said Atiku’s remarks are the latest in a “streak of incendiary commentaries,” suggesting they are designed to sow unrest.

According to him, the former Vice President’s comments serve as a veiled call for uprising rather than offering constructive dialogue.

“Instead of solutions, Atiku offers provocation,” Morka stated. “As a two-term Vice President, he had ample opportunity—backed by massive oil revenues—to tackle poverty and hunger. But under his watch, those problems only worsened.”

The APC further alleged that Atiku and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), “plundered and looted our treasury,” laying the foundation for today’s challenges.

Morka insisted that President Tinubu is “courageously and relentlessly” addressing those issues with what the party describes as growing success.

Refusing to let Atiku’s political past go unchecked, the ruling party questioned his credibility as a recurring presidential contender: “He remains eminently clueless about what it takes to tackle our country’s economic challenges.”

As political tensions rise and Nigerians grapple with economic hardship, the exchange underscores the increasingly personal tone of Nigeria’s political discourse.
