Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara returns to Port Harcourt two days after President Tinubu lifted the state of emergency and ordered his reinstatement

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has now returned to the state on Friday, marking his first public appearance since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lifted the state of emergency and ordered his reinstatement earlier this week.

The governor’s aircraft touched down at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at exactly 11:50 a.m., where he was welcomed by a crowd of enthusiastic supporters and political allies.

Fubara’s return follows weeks of political tension in Rivers State, which prompted the declaration of a state of emergency.

The situation eased after President Tinubu intervened and formally ended the emergency measures two days ago.

Among the key figures who welcomed the governor at the airport were:

  • Barr. Emma Okah – Former Commissioner for Information and Communications
  • Dr. Adaeze Oreh – Former Commissioner for Health
  • Oji Ngofa– Former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands
  • Sydney Gbara – Former Commissioner for Environment
  • Victor Oko-Jumbo – Former factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly

Other dignitaries included:

  • Chisom Gbali – Former Commissioner for Youths
  • Evans Bipi – Former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development
  • Igwe Achese – Former President of NUPENG
  • Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja – Former Commissioner for Education
  • Ezebunwo Ichemati – Former Port Harcourt City Council Chairman
  • Former Obio/Akpor Council Chairman

The show of support comes amid ongoing political realignments in the state, with many observers describing Fubara’s return as both symbolic and strategic.
