Peter Obi return to PDP will boost 2027 chances – Dan Ulasi

PDP chieftain says Obi’s credibility could secure 40% of 2027 votes

Peter Obi return to PDP will boost 2027 election prospects, says Dan Ulasi, citing Obi’s national support and credibility.

Peter Obi return to PDP could significantly enhance the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, according to senior party chieftain Dan Ulasi.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, Ulasi said Obi’s credibility and widespread support would offer a major electoral advantage to any party he joins.

“I’ll be happy if he joins PDP because he will bring his credibility to bear on the party as we are reorganising,” Ulasi said.

“Any party that has him today already has more than 30 to 40 per cent of the election because he has tremendous support across this country.”

Ulasi, a long-time figure in the Peoples Democratic Party, also questioned Obi’s current political footing, claiming that the former Labour Party presidential candidate does not appear to have a stable political platform.

“To the best of my knowledge, Peter Obi has no platform. He ran last time with Labour Party, he has attended the launching of ADC. I don’t know what his platform will be,” Ulasi remarked.

On the contentious issue of zoning the presidency ahead of 2027, Ulasi advocated for fairness, urging the PDP to micro-zone the ticket to the South-East.

“If there is honesty, they should micro-zone it to the South-East because virtually now we are the only zone, theoretically speaking, that has not had a presidency,” he said.

Ulasi also gave insights into the PDP’s ongoing reorganisation efforts. “In the last national executive meeting we had, almost seven of our governors were there.

It was refreshing that everybody is now talking about how to reorganise the party and put it on a stronger footing for 2027 and other elections.”

Peter Obi, a former Anambra State governor, left the PDP in May 2022 and ran for president under the Labour Party, where his candidacy sparked the rise of the youth-driven “Obidient Movement.”

Despite finishing third in the 2023 election, his campaign disrupted Nigeria’s traditional two-party dominance and left a lasting political footprint.

While Obi has yet to confirm any return to the PDP, conversations around realignments ahead of 2027 continue to shape the political landscape.
