The South-East Traditional Rulers Council has renewed its demand for the unconditional release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The traditional rulers lamented that previous appeals to the Federal Government have failed to yield the desired outcome.
In a statement reflecting their continued position, the council reiterated that the release of Kanu remains critical to restoring lasting peace and stability in the South-East region.
The traditional rulers have consistently argued that a political solution, rather than prolonged detention, offers the best path towards de-escalating tension and fostering reconciliation in the zone.
They called on the Federal Government to prioritise dialogue and take concrete steps to address the lingering concerns surrounding Kanu’s continued incarceration.
The renewed demand comes amid persistent calls from various stakeholders in the South-East, including religious leaders and community groups, for the IPOB leader’s release as a means of promoting peace and national cohesion.
