Teen dies after secret breast surgery; father alleges cover-up and demands investigation after discovering implants at funeral

In a deeply disturbing case that has triggered national outrage in Mexico, 14-year old teenager dies after secret breast surgery.

Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo tragically passed away in hospital, one week after allegedly undergoing an unauthorised breast enlargement procedure.

Her father, Carlos Arellano, claims he had no knowledge of the surgery and is calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, which was officially recorded as complications from a respiratory illness.

Paloma died on Saturday, 20th September, in Durango. But Mr Arellano says the real cause of her death was a botched cosmetic operation — one he only discovered during her funeral when he noticed scarring and implants in her body.

“They gave us the death certificate right away. I don’t know how they managed it so quickly,” he said, voicing concern that the documents had been prepared too hastily.

“It falsely stated ‘illness’ as the cause of death, which I believe was an attempt to cover up the truth.”

Teen dies after secret breast surgery — a claim now under active investigation by the local Prosecutor’s Office, following a formal complaint filed by Mr Arellano shortly after her burial.

He insists that his daughter had been suffering in silence and believes that whoever facilitated or performed the surgery must be held accountable. “I demand that all those responsible be investigated,” he added.

This tragedy has drawn parallels to another shocking case from earlier this year, where 31-year-old Ana Bárbara Buhr Buldrini died after undergoing multiple cosmetic surgeries in Turkey.

Her husband, Elgar Miles, said she was rushed into surgery just days after consultation, despite questionable conduct by the clinic.

The string of deaths tied to unregulated or hastily arranged cosmetic procedures has reignited urgent debates about ethical medical practices, especially involving minors.

As authorities in Durango probe further, Mr Arellano remains adamant: “There was a cover-up. My daughter deserved better — and so do all girls who are preyed upon by a system that exploits their insecurities.”
