FirstBank inclusive banking services will empower blind and disabled Nigerians with accessible, secure, and independent financial solutions

Empowering blind, partially sighted, and physically challenged customers, FirstBank is launching a new wave of inclusive banking services, marking a significant step forward in the Nigerian banking sector’s drive toward greater accessibility and inclusion.

In a phased rollout across all branches and subsidiaries, FirstBank is introducing specially tailored services to improve accessibility for customers with visual and physical impairments.

This powerful initiative demonstrates the bank’s continued commitment to diversity, equity, and financial inclusion.

Chief Risk Officer and Chairman of the FirstBank Sustainability Committee, Patrick Akhidenor, commented on the move: “Everyone deserves access to financial services, whether through physical or digital channels. We recognise this and are committed to providing accessible, affordable, and secure banking solutions for visually impaired and physically challenged customers, enabling them to manage their accounts independently.”

Services will include account documents in braille, large print, audio, and digital formats, as well as ATMs with high-contrast screens and voice prompts.

Specially designed debit cards will feature braille and tactile indicators for ease of use.

Additionally, soft PINs, security tokens, and brochures in accessible formats will further support secure and independent banking.

This initiative aligns with Nigeria’s Central Bank financial inclusion framework and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

It also complements FirstBank’s broader sustainabiality goals, including a strong gender balance in staffing, with women making up 41% of employees and 37% of management.
