Speaking on the latest episode of The Wayne Rooney Show on BBC Sounds, the former Manchester United captain said he no longer sees any sense of purpose or pride in the side he once led to multiple league titles.
Rooney, United’s all-time top scorer, admitted he now attends matches expecting his old club to lose, adding bluntly, “I am not seeing anything which is giving me any confidence.”
Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday marked yet another setback, bringing their total to just 34 points from Amorim’s 33 Premier League matches.
Despite their dismal form leaving them 14th in the table, club officials continue to back the Portuguese coach.
But Rooney wasn’t convinced. He claimed some current players “don’t deserve to wear the shirt” and said the team “needs a new engine”. According to him, supporters are already bracing for the club’s complete collapse.
“Manager, players, whatever that is,” he said. “Whatever it takes to get Manchester United back.”
Rooney’s remarks have sparked widespread debate, with many fans echoing his concerns and calling for urgent action.
