Makinde Ends LAUTECH Nurses’ Strike after approving ₦35m subvention, promotion arrears, and reforms during a hospital visit

Makinde Ends LAUTECH Nurses’ Strike with a decisive ₦35 million intervention that addressed critical welfare issues at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.

The strike, which began in September 2025, was officially suspended on Friday, October 3, following a resolution by the Congress of nurses and midwives after the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, visited the hospital midweek to personally intervene.

In a statement jointly signed by Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, the health workers praised Governor Makinde’s actions as both compassionate and visionary, saying his intervention had rekindled their hope.

The governor approved an increase of ₦35 million in the hospital’s monthly subvention.

He also ordered the phased payment of promotion arrears and outstanding minimum wage, along with the integration of contract personnel into the hospital’s workforce for fairness and inclusivity.

Further solidifying his commitment, Makinde pledged to constitute a Governing Council for the hospital and complete the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo town before the end of his administration.

“The Congress of nurses and midwives…formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately,” the statement confirmed.

Makinde Ends LAUTECH Nurses’ Strike by not only meeting immediate demands but laying the groundwork for long-term institutional stability.

“This gesture is not only in recognition of the governor’s magnanimity but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to delivering quality healthcare to the people,” the statement read.

With his intervention, Makinde has once again demonstrated strong political will to safeguard health services while ensuring the welfare of medical professionals—a move that cements his image as a tested and trusted leader in Oyo State.
