The Gaza City airstrikes after Trump ceasefire appeal have deepened fears of renewed escalation in the region, as Israel carried out dozens of overnight bombardments despite US President Donald Trump’s call for an immediate halt to attacks following Hamas’s acceptance of a ceasefire deal.

According to Gaza’s civil defence agency, it was “a very violent night”, with heavy air strikes and artillery shelling across several districts of Gaza City.
“Twenty homes were destroyed in the overnight bombardments,” said Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the rescue agency, which operates under Hamas authority.
“The situation is very serious in Gaza City,” Bassal told AFP. “Our teams cannot reach all the casualties due to the presence of tanks and the ongoing bombardment.”
The Israeli military said it was “checking” reports of the air raids but provided no further details.
Hospitals in Gaza reported a surge in casualties overnight. The Baptist Hospital in Gaza City said it received four dead and several wounded from a strike in the Tuffah neighbourhood, while Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis confirmed that two children were killed and eight others injured in a drone strike on a tent sheltering displaced families.
The renewed attacks came just hours after Hamas signalled readiness to implement Trump’s peace plan, which includes a ceasefire, hostage releases within 72 hours, Hamas’s disarmament, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Hamas said on Friday it was prepared to release hostages under the deal but sought negotiations on key details and a role in determining Gaza’s political future.
Trump’s proposal, backed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has drawn global attention as a possible turning point after nearly two years of devastating conflict.

However, Saturday’s bombardments have raised doubts over the willingness of both sides to de-escalate.
