First Bank E1 Lagos Grand Prix transforms Victoria Island into a vibrant hub as Africa hosts its first-ever all-electric powerboat race

First Bank E1 Lagos Grand Prix turned the Lagos waterfront into a spectacular scene of speed, style, and celebration on Saturday, marking Africa’s first-ever all-electric powerboat race.

The Victoria Island shoreline came alive with lights, music, and excitement as futuristic hydro-powered boats cut through the Atlantic waves in a dazzling fusion of technology, sport, and entertainment.

The event showcased not only the future of water racing but also the vibrant soul of Lagos — a city that never fails to impress.

The E1 Grand Prix’s debut on African waters drew a host of dignitaries and global icons, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, E1 CEO and co-founder Rodi Basso, and First Bank of Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Olusegun Alebiosu.

Also in attendance was football legend Didier Drogba, co-owner of Team Drogba Global Africa, whose charm and presence electrified the crowd.

At the bustling fan zone, the celebration felt more like a Lagos carnival than a sporting event. Music, dance, and food stalls created a joyful atmosphere as locals and tourists gathered to witness the groundbreaking spectacle.

The First Bank experience booths drew large crowds, with visitors exploring lifestyle offerings and even opening new accounts on-site.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s arrival sparked cheers as he mingled with fans and lauded the event as a symbol of Lagos’ growing reputation as a world-class destination for innovation and culture.

For many Lagosians, the event was a proud moment. “It honestly surpassed my expectations,” said Latoya Johnson, one of the excited spectators.

“I never imagined Nigeria could host something this world-class. I’m proud of Lagos, and proud of Nigeria.”

She praised First Bank’s role, saying, “My parents banked with First Bank, and I grew up knowing it as the reliable one. I’m not surprised they’re behind something this big they’ve always been part of Nigeria’s proudest moments.”

For First Bank, the E1 Lagos Grand Prix is more than sponsorship it’s a continuation of its celebrated “FirstBank DecemberIssaVybe” tradition. Since 2018, this initiative has redefined festive entertainment in Nigeria, blending premium concerts, comedy shows, and cultural experiences with a unique First Bank touch.

By steering the E1 Lagos GP, First Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, sustainability, tourism, and lifestyle development, turning global attention toward Lagos as a hub for sport and leisure.

As the sun set over the glimmering Atlantic skyline, the waterfront mirrored the city’s essence energetic, bold, and unstoppable.
