Ikechukwu N arrest in Argentina marks INTERPOL’s first dual Red and Silver Notice capture, ending a global hunt for the Nigerian cybercrime suspect

Ikechukwu N arrest in Argentina has ended a global manhunt for a Nigerian national accused of orchestrating widespread romance scams and leading a transnational cybercrime network.

Argentine authorities confirmed the arrest of Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first-ever capture of a fugitive listed under both an INTERPOL Red Notice and Silver Notice.

The suspect is alleged to have masterminded elaborate online fraud schemes targeting thousands of women worldwide through fake romantic relationships designed to defraud victims of significant sums.

According to security sources, the operation was the result of coordinated intelligence sharing between INTERPOL’s global network and law enforcement agencies across Africa, Europe, and South America.

INTERPOL described the development as a landmark success in its campaign against cross-border cybercrime, noting that the dual notice classification reflects the severity and sophistication of the suspect’s activities.

Preliminary reports indicate that investigators have recovered evidence linking Ikechukwu to a syndicate that operated under various aliases, using social media platforms and cryptocurrency channels to launder proceeds.

Officials said the suspect will face extradition proceedings in line with international cooperation protocols, while further investigations continue to identify his accomplices.

The arrest underscores growing global collaboration in tackling cyber-enabled financial crimes, a problem that has intensified with the digitalisation of social interactions.

With the Ikechukwu N arrest, authorities say a clear message has been sent to international fraud rings that borderless digital operations will not shield offenders from justice.
