FG’s Renewed Hope Student Housing Project to deliver 38,400 modern hostel bed spaces across 24 tertiary institutions by 2026

The Renewed Hope Student Housing Project, a flagship initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, is set to deliver over 38,400 world-class hostel bed spaces across 24 tertiary institutions nationwide by the end of 2026.

The ambitious project, which is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aims to revamp student accommodation through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) involving the Federal Government, Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited.

Each student hostel will provide 1,600 bed spaces, including 400 ensuite rooms with individual study desks, reading rooms, common rooms, cafeterias, laundromats, salons, grocery shops, and public toilets — all built to international standards.

“By providing modern, safe, and affordable hostels, we are ensuring that students have the right environment to live and learn while reducing the stress and risks associated with inadequate accommodation,”
— Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar, Managing Director, Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL)

Work has commenced in six tertiary institutions, three in the North and three in the South:

North

  • Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
  • Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi
  • FCT College of Education, Zuba

South

  • Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology, Ogun
  • Akwa Ibom State University
  • College of Education, Warri

The hostels in Warri and Akwa Ibom are nearing completion and are expected to be commissioned by December 2025.

The next phase of the project is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with commissioning planned for October 2026. Institutions in this phase include:

  1. Federal Polytechnic, Nekede
  2. Ebonyi State University
  3. Enugu State University of Science and Technology
  4. Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic*
  5. Federal University, Lafia
  6. Benue State University, Makurdi
  7. Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University
  8. Gombe State University

With over 2.1 million students enrolled in public tertiary institutions and less than 15% having access to on-campus accommodation, this project aims to fill a massive infrastructure gap while improving academic outcomes.

According to project promoters, the Renewed Hope Student Housing Project is not only a student welfare initiative, but also a job-creating, investment-attracting and infrastructure-driven development effort that aligns with the administration’s national development goals.

As construction progresses and commissioning of completed hostels draws near, the Federal Government, through FHFL and its partners, says it remains committed to delivering on its promise to ensure that more students in Nigeria can study and live in dignity.

“This project is steadily reshaping the face of campus life in Nigeria, and we are determined to continue delivering across all six geopolitical zones,”
— FHFL Spokesperson
