Gbenga Daniel wins a friendly table tennis match against Taiwo Adeoluwa during the Alake of Egbaland’s 82nd birthday at Ikoyi Club, Lagos

Gbenga Daniel table tennis match lit up the 82nd birthday celebration of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, as former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, thrilled guests with his sporting skills.

The exhibition game, held at the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos, saw Daniel square off against Chief Taiwo Adeoluwa, his former Chief of Staff, in what became one of the day’s most entertaining highlights.

The atmosphere was charged with camaraderie and excitement as dignitaries, sports enthusiasts, and members of the Egba community gathered to honour the revered monarch.

The friendly rivalry between the two old allies drew cheers and laughter from the crowd, symbolising unity and the shared spirit of celebration.

Daniel, known for his versatility and charm beyond politics, showcased impressive reflexes and agility during the match, ultimately emerging victorious in what guests described as a “powerful display of sportsmanship and grace.”

In his brief remarks, Daniel congratulated the Alake on his milestone 82nd birthday, praising his enduring legacy of peace and progress in Egbaland.

“Kabiyesi has been a pillar of wisdom and unity for our people. It is always a joy to celebrate him in good health and high spirits,” he said.

The monarch’s birthday celebration blended culture, sports, and social connection, further strengthening the bond among Egba sons and daughters.

The event’s success reflected the Alake’s influence as a traditional leader who continues to inspire both young and old.
