Tope Alabi reveals how four men left her after seeking spiritual advice, before finding lasting love and thanking God for divine timing
Tope Alabi, the renowned Nigerian gospel singer, has opened up about her painful experiences on the road to marriage, revealing that four men “stylishly left” her after consulting prophets about their relationship.

In an emotional video shared on Instagram, the 55-year-old singer reflected on how, as a young woman ready for marriage, things repeatedly fell apart just when she thought she had found the right partner.
“When I became an adult and it was getting to a stage that I needed to take men to meet my parents, something strange always came up,” Tope Alabi said.
“The men would say they needed to go and pray about it and afterward, they would stop reaching out to me.”
She explained that most of the rejections seemed to carry spiritual undertones. On one occasion, she was told that a potential suitor had visited prophets who warned him against marrying her.
“One of our intermediaries once told me that one of the men had gone to meet prophets who told him I was not okay to be married to,” she recalled.
“I can count like four men that stylishly left me. Would you then tell me not to thank God whenever I remember that?”
The gospel icon shared that she eventually met her husband through her boss at work — though their love story was not without complications.
“The man promised to marry me, but I told him that’s what all men say,” Tope Alabi recounted. “After he told my parents he would come for proper introduction, we stopped seeing each other.
My father had already given out my hand in marriage to another suitor before he travelled.”
Now married to her longtime producer and manager, Soji Alabi, the singer looks back on her journey with gratitude.
She was previously married to Lekan Olaoye, with whom she had a daughter, Ayomikun. Together with Soji, she now shares three children.
“Tope Alabi” described her story as a powerful testimony of divine timing and faith. “When I look back, I just thank God for how everything turned out. It was not easy, but it was worth it,” she said.
