Nigeria FIFA ranking improves to 41st globally and 5th in Africa, marking a strong resurgence for the Super Eagles after recent international victories

Nigeria has recorded a major boost in the latest FIFA World ranking, climbing to 41st globally and 5th in Africa a sign of the Super Eagles’ steady resurgence on both continental and global fronts.

The upward movement follows two successive victories during the recent international break, helping Nigeria gain 11.6 points — from 1,483.86 to 1,495.46 — and move four places up from 45th.

Across Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria continue to dominate the top four positions, with Nigeria rounding out the continent’s top five.

Morocco, semi-finalists at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, remain Africa’s best-ranked team and 12th globally with 1,710.11 points, followed by Senegal (18th, 1,650.61), Egypt (32nd, 1,525.31), and Algeria (35th, 1,510.26).

Nigeria’s rise underscores renewed stability under improved tactical discipline and consistency within the squad.

Football analysts say the Super Eagles’ upward trend could continue if they sustain their recent momentum in upcoming fixtures.

Elsewhere in Africa, Côte d’Ivoire climbed to 42nd globally after gaining 7.88 points, while Tunisia moved up to 43rd with an increase of 7.78 points.

The results further underline the tight competition among the continent’s football giants.

Globally, Spain reclaimed the top spot with 1,880.76 points, overtaking Argentina (2nd, 1,872.43) and France (3rd, 1,862.71), while England and Portugal complete the world’s top five.

For Nigerian football fans, the latest ranking provides renewed optimism ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign.

Experts predict that if Nigeria maintains its current trajectory, the Super Eagles could soon break back into the world’s top 30, a position they last held in the mid-2010s — marking a true comeback for one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
