Zamfara APC Denies Wooing Governor Lawal, describing recent reports suggesting the party is courting the state’s PDP governor as false and misleading.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, the party’s spokesperson, Alhaji Yusuf Idris, said no talks or arrangements had been made to bring Governor Dauda Lawal into the All Progressives Congress (APC), labelling the rumour “unpatriotic, unprofessional, and fabricated.”

“The Zamfara State chapter of the APC has never approached the PDP or its governor in any way to ask him to join the APC,” Idris said.

He criticised Lawal’s administration for what he called a dismal performance, claiming the governor had lost the trust of both voters and politicians in the state.

“The APC in Zamfara has never been impressed by the decimating performance of Governor Dauda Lawal,” the statement continued.

This disappointing view is widely held by the electorate and political stakeholders, as evidenced in the Kaura Namoda South House of Assembly bye-election held on 16 August 2025, where the APC secured a decisive victory.”

Idris further claimed that the PDP’s candidate in that poll, along with several of his supporters, had since defected to the APC — a sign, he argued, of the opposition party’s dwindling popularity in Zamfara.

The statement also took aim at “unpopular online platforms”, accusing them of spreading falsehoods to generate attention.

“The APC does not require the patronage of lies to sustain its unprecedented popularity and support from the electorate,” Idris said, urging citizens to rely only on verified party communications.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its own internal strategies and public appeal, adding that Zamfara APC remains focused on governance and grassroots mobilisation, not political speculation.
