Jigawa police drug peddling arrests yield over 23,000 illicit drugs in a major state-wide operation targeting long-wanted suspects

Jigawa police drug peddling arrests have led to the seizure of nearly 24,000 illicit substances and the apprehension of three major suspects in what authorities have described as one of the state’s largest anti-drug operations in recent memory.

The coordinated raids were carried out on October 18 across Garki, Fagam, and Maigatari by officers of the Jigawa State Police Command, following weeks of intelligence gathering. Spokesman for the command, SP Shiisu Lawan, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday in a statement released in Dutse.

The suspects, whose identities were withheld for legal reasons, had reportedly been on the police wanted list for their alleged roles in the distribution of hard drugs across the region. Two of the arrested individuals are from Kano State and the Niger Republic, respectively.

“The command recovered a total of 23,944 illicit drugs, marking one of the largest seizures in recent operations,” Lawan said, noting the devastating impact of drug abuse among young people in the state.

He added that the arrests underscore the command’s deep commitment to purging Jigawa communities of substances that “continue to destroy lives.”

The suspects will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations, the spokesman confirmed.

The latest arrests follow a broader crackdown by the Jigawa police, which has intensified efforts in recent months to dismantle the state’s growing drug network.

Earlier this month, on 15 October, PUNCH Online reported the arrest of 105 individuals linked to illegal drug activity during statewide raids.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Shi’isu Adam told journalists that over 5,000 illicit drugs and intoxicating substances were recovered during the October operations.

He detailed the rigorous approach taken by law enforcement, noting that officers searched “every nook and cranny” to uproot the trade.

“Our men left no stone unturned,” Adam said, adding that the mission is not merely to arrest, but to protect communities from the destructive grip of narcotics.
