The operation, which included soft drinks, milk, tomato paste, and insecticides, targeted products that failed laboratory conformity tests and posed serious risks to consumers.

Mr Adamu Ahmed, Deputy Director of SON’s North-West Region, emphasised that the destruction was essential to prevent harmful items from reaching the public. He stated that the exercise also sends a strong warning to manufacturers and importers about the organisation’s uncompromising stance on quality.

“Their destruction ensures consumers do not unknowingly use items that could endanger their health,” Ahmed added, highlighting SON Nigeria’s commitment to safeguarding lives through rigorous standardisation and quality assurance.

The exercise was supported by multiple agencies, including the Department of State Services, Nigerian Police, Civil Defence Corps, NESREA, KEPA, and the Kaduna State Government. Mr Hena Dangari of NESREA praised the operation, noting the importance of inter-agency collaboration in protecting both public health and the environment.

He also urged the public to report substandard products promptly and cautioned against single-use plastics, stressing manufacturers’ responsibility through proper waste management initiatives.

KEPA’s General Manager, Mr Yahya Victor, commended SON Nigeria for coordinating with state authorities, reinforcing a shared mission of consumer protection and environmental sustainability.
