Sanwo-Olu emphasises data-driven governance, urging APC to embrace credible digital records to strengthen party structure and accountability

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, said accurate data and measurable outcomes are vital tools for efficient governance and a strong political structure.

Speaking at the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-West E-Membership Registration Hands-on Device/Application Programme, themed “Train-the-Trainer”, held at Lagos House, Marina, Sanwo-Olu underscored the power of credible data in shaping sustainable development and informed decision-making.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, the governor noted that both governance and politics must be anchored on facts, evidence, and regular evaluation.

“Whatever cannot be measured cannot be managed,” he said. “As a political party, we must know who our members are, where they are, and how they feel about governance.”

He added that the APC must develop a reliable digital membership database to enhance communication, improve engagement, and ensure organisational readiness ahead of future elections.

The governor called for stronger two-way communication between the government and citizens, insisting that accurate data empowers leaders to understand public sentiment and respond effectively.

He reaffirmed Lagos State’s dedication to transparency, digital transformation, and people-focused governance, urging APC members to maintain the state’s legacy of accountability.

Sanwo-Olu also commended President Bola Tinubu for introducing bold and necessary reforms in the economy and petroleum sector, saying the measures were beginning to produce visible, long-term benefits.

He encouraged party members to defend government policies and remain patient as reforms take deeper root.

In his remarks, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, described the e-registration project as a landmark step towards entrenching transparency and structure within the party.

“A political party must maintain an accurate and verifiable database of its members,” he said, adding that the initiative would institutionalise innovation and inclusiveness across the South-West.

Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, welcomed participants, saying the digital registration programme demonstrated that the APC remains a disciplined, forward-thinking organisation committed to democratic excellence.

“This programme is an avenue to show that we are an organised and capable party that believes in doing things rightly,” Ojelabi said.

“Through this e-registration exercise, we are again setting the standard for others to follow as the true party of progressives.”

He stressed that modern political parties must embrace technology and adopt data-driven systems to stay relevant in today’s rapidly evolving democratic environment.

By prioritising accurate data, digital innovation, and measurable outcomes, Sanwo-Olu said the APC would continue to position itself as a model of progressive governance for Nigeria’s future.
