Gombe governor presents N535.69bn 2026 budget

Gombe Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya presents N535.69bn 2026 budget focused on sustainable development, infrastructure, education, and health

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday presented a N535.69 billion budget for 2026 to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a “Budget of Consolidation” aimed at sustaining the state’s development gains.

The governor said the budget aligns with the Development Agenda for Gombe (DEVAGOM) and prioritises inclusive growth, equity, and sustainability.

“It prioritises the pressing needs of our people while anchoring our development trajectory on the pillars of sustainability, equity, and inclusive growth,” Yahaya said.

Governor Yahaya noted that the 2025 budget of N369.9bn was revised to N451.66bn.

By September 30, 2025, recurrent revenue stood at N336.48bn, capital expenditure at N143.18bn, with an overall performance of 60.12%.

Key Achievements

  • Infrastructure: Over 1,000 km of roads, City Centre Underpass, Northern Bypass, and solar streetlights.
  • Energy & Industry: Balanga hydropower, Talasse solar mini-grid, Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park substation, and 22 solar mini-grids planned.
  • Education: 1,800 classrooms, 1,000 teachers employed, 450,000 out-of-school children enrolled; Lincoln University Kumo to commence.
  • Health: Primary healthcare in all 114 wards, upgraded hospitals, and Go-Health coverage for 380,000 residents.
  • Agriculture: Agro-Livestock Development Zone with markets, abattoir, and inland dry port.
  • Public Service: ₦33.83bn gratuities cleared and ₦70,000 minimum wage implemented.

2026 Budget Breakdown

  • Recurrent expenditure:N164.25bn (30.66%)
  • Capital expenditure: N371.44bn (69.34%)
  • Projected revenue: N416.10bn
  • Capital receipts: N225.57bn
  • Closing balance: N100bn

Governor Yahaya also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, highlighting Naira stabilisation, declining inflation, and increased federation inflows.

“We are not slowing down; we are doubling up,” he said, urging citizens to maintain confidence in the state’s growth trajectory.

The budget is now under review by the Gombe State House of Assembly for approval.
