The payments were completed under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), according to a statement released by the Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi, in Abuja on Friday.

The payouts form part of the N32,000 increment approved by President Bola Tinubu. Mr Ajayi provided a detailed breakdown:

N1.9bn was disbursed to 59,865 pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department; N830m to 12,976 Civil Service Pension Department retirees; and N620m to 9,689 Police Pension Department beneficiaries.

Other payments included N551m to 8,616 pensioners under the Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration Service, and Prisons Pension Department.

Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to clearing outstanding arrears and enhancing pensioners’ welfare as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

PTAD had previously announced that the implementation of the new pension increments would begin in the September 2025 payroll cycle.

The increment package features a fixed N32,000 payment alongside percentage increases of 10.66% and 12.95% for eligible categories, benefiting approximately 832,000 pensioners under the Directorate’s management.

The successful payment is expected to provide relief to retirees and demonstrate the government’s determination to address long-standing financial obligations.
