Governor Sanwo-Olu submits Lagos 2026 appropriation bill of ₦4.237 trillion; Assembly also nullifies LASPAA GM appointment amid confirmations of other nominees

Lagos 2026 appropriation bill has been submitted to the State House of Assembly, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu proposing a total budget of ₦4.237 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year.

The submission was formally acknowledged during Monday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

In his letter read by Clerk Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for the Assembly’s continued collaboration, noting that the partnership had strengthened governance, enhanced public trust, and advanced key developmental initiatives across the state.

The proposed budget allocates ₦2.048 trillion to recurrent expenditure and ₦2.188 trillion to capital projects. Internally Generated Revenue is expected to contribute ₦3.119 trillion, while federal transfers are projected at ₦874 billion.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the proposal reflects a 25% increase over the 2025 revised budget, signalling confidence in the state’s capacity to achieve its developmental goals.

He requested the Assembly to fix a substantive date for the formal presentation of the Appropriation Bill.

Responding, Speaker Obasa welcomed the submission and stressed the Assembly’s responsibility to scrutinise the proposal thoroughly, ensuring that the budget aligns with the aspirations and needs of Lagosians.

During the same plenary, the House nullified the nomination of Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu as General Manager of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPAA).

The 12-man Ad Hoc Committee on Screening reported that Mrs. Adelabu had been acting in the role since 2021 without the constitutionally required confirmation.

The House adopted the committee’s recommendation in accordance with Section 92 of the Lagos State Transport Reform Law.

The Assembly, however, confirmed the appointments of Mrs. Adeyemo Khadijat as Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission and Mrs. Adepoju Adebajo as Chairman of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).

Speaker Obasa commended the committee for its diligence and reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to due process, accountability, and appointing qualified individuals to positions of public trust, ensuring good governance for all Lagosians.
