Lagos Tennis Club celebration glowed as royalty and music legend Ebenezer Obey graced its historic 130th anniversary event
According to organisers, the Lagos Tennis Club celebration held on Friday, 28 November 2025 drew an impressive gathering of eminent Nigerians who converged to honour one of the nation’s oldest sporting institutions.

The landmark event marked a remarkable 130 years of excellence in advancing lawn tennis and nurturing athletes who have proudly represented Nigeria on the global stage.
His Majesty, Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Ph.D, the Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode and Olofin Apesin Olode, and the revered Olota of the Ancient and Paramount Ottaland of the Awori Kingdom, graciously attended as Royal Guest. His presence added a powerful touch of cultural prestige to the evening.
His Majesty joined distinguished attendees in congratulating members of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club under the capable leadership of its President, Dr Adeyinka Adewusi.
They included the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, HRM Oba Babatunde Ajayi; the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, HRM Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo; the Atayero of Aramoko Ekiti, Alayeluwa Oba Olusegun Aderemi and Elemuren of Emuren Remo, Alayeluwa Oba Olusegun Alawonle.
Also present at the well attended event were the Otun Maiyegun of Otta and the General Secretary of Island Club, Aare Ayodele Amos Bankole, and the Agba Akin of Otta, Aworiland, Chief Olajide Adeniji, among others.
Guests described the anniversary as a brilliant and unforgettable milestone, reflecting the club’s long tradition of excellence and its enduring impact on Nigerian sports.
The chairman of the occasion was Senator Adeola Olamilekan Solomon; Special Guest of Honour, the Majority Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and the Lagos State governor, who was well represented by his deputy, H.E Femi Hamzat.
The celebration reached an emotional high when Juju music icon and globally acclaimed Professor of Music, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey, graced the stage.
His captivating performance, filled with timeless rhythms and soulful delivery, left the audience deeply moved and added a truly electrifying atmosphere to the night’s festivities.
