Governor Biodun Oyebanji submits Ekiti Cabinet Commissioners for Assembly screening ahead of 2026 election to maintain government continuity

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday submitted a list of Ekiti Cabinet Commissioners to the State House of Assembly for screening and approval, marking a key step in reconstituting his executive council.

The nominees are former commissioners whose appointments were dissolved by the governor on August 10, 2025.

The Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, said the decision followed consultations between the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State and key stakeholders, who recommended retaining the existing team to ensure unity ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

Oyebode explained that appointing an entirely new set of commissioners at this stage could be counterproductive, given the proximity of the polls.

The statement emphasised that the process reflects the administration’s commitment to accountability and stakeholder engagement, in line with the governor’s earlier assurances during his first cabinet formation.

Governor Oyebanji had dissolved the State Executive Council on August 11, 2025, retaining only six commissioners.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, directed affected commissioners and special advisers to hand over responsibilities to permanent secretaries or senior civil servants in their respective ministries.

The dissolution excluded certain key positions, including the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as well as commissioners for Health and Human Services, Agriculture and Food Security, Education, Works, and Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives. Several special advisers and directors general within the SEC were also retained to maintain continuity.
