Nigeria accelerates African School Games preparations after officials map out key strategies for Abuja 2027

The closed-door discussions focused on infrastructural readiness, key operational milestones and a coordinated framework to ensure Nigeria delivers a credible continent-wide youth sporting event.

All three officials stressed that early alignment was critical to hosting a seamless competition.

Bukola Olopade said the African School Games represented the future of youth sports development in Africa and insisted that Nigeria was ready to take a leading role.

He said the Commission would provide all necessary support to the Local Organising Committee to ensure the 2027 Games set a new standard for excellence, participation and continental unity.

Lanre Abari said he was confident in Nigeria’s capacity to stage a memorable second edition, describing Abuja 2027 as an opportunity for the country to showcase its hospitality and the immense potential of young athletes.

He said the committee would now intensify its work following its recent inauguration, promising a disciplined and energetic approach.

A seasoned executive with experience across public and private sectors, Abari is recognised for boosting organisational efficiency through strategic planning and operational excellence.

His previous tenure as Chairman of the Oyo State Gaming Board earned him a reputation for people-centred leadership that drove measurable results.
