Fusengbuwa Ruling House postpones Awujale nomination meeting following state government review to ensure legal compliance
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebu-Ode announced on Friday the postponement of its Awujale nomination meeting, originally scheduled for Monday, citing an intervention by the state government to prevent procedural errors that could lead to litigation.

Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and former National President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, told reporters the meeting was delayed to ensure full compliance with existing laws.
The ruling house was summoned by the state government on Tuesday to review the nomination process with the Awujale Interregnum Committee and the kingmakers.
Owoyemi dismissed claims linking the postponement to the possible candidacy of Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1.
“The delay has nothing to do with any individual. The government meeting is meant to ensure the selection process is flawless and free of legal controversy,” he stated.
Prof. Fassy Yusuf, Vice Chairman of the ruling house, confirmed that more than 60 princes are currently vying for the throne.
Yusuf emphasised that the outcome of the government meeting would determine the rescheduled date for the nomination.
The postponement comes as efforts to find a successor to the late Oba Adetona, who reigned for 65 years before his death in July 2025, gain momentum. Local authorities reportedly gave the ruling house a 14-day window to present candidates for consideration.

Owoyemi concluded that the ruling house appreciated the government’s guidance, which he said would elevate procedural standards and strengthen public confidence in the selection process.
