Aliko Dangote urges federal government to investigate NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed over $5M Swiss tuition, citing misuse of public funds

Lagos businessman and industrialist Aliko Dangote has called for the investigation and prosecution of Farouk Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), over allegations of extravagant spending of public funds.

Dangote specifically cited $5 million reportedly used to pay for the Swiss school fees of the CEO’s children.

Speaking in Lagos on Sunday, Dangote raised concerns that the expenditure could indicate conflicts of interest, economic sabotage, and mismanagement within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

He argued that the alleged conduct undermines public trust and the integrity of the regulatory authority.

“The use of taxpayers’ money for personal luxury expenses is deeply troubling. It raises serious questions about governance, accountability, and the commitment of regulatory leaders to the nation’s economic welfare,” Dangote said.

The business mogul urged the federal government to take decisive action, calling on investigative agencies to examine the allegations thoroughly and, if confirmed, prosecute those responsible under the law.

Dangote’s appeal also referenced broader concerns over transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, stressing that strong oversight is essential to prevent misuse of public resources and protect national interests.
