Abegunde elderly women support sees 200 senior citizens in Emure Ekiti receive yuletide cash assistance to ease living pressures
Otunba Olumide Abegunde, philanthropist and community leader, on December 2025 in Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State, provided yuletide financial support to 200 elderly women aged 65 years and above, as part of a community welfare initiative aimed at easing seasonal hardship.
The intervention, which forms part of the Abegunde elderly women support programme, saw each beneficiary receive ₦5,000, with participants drawn evenly from Ogbontioro, Idamudu, Oke Emure and Odo Emure quarters of the town to ensure fairness and inclusivity.
Otunba Abegunde said the gesture was driven by a long standing commitment to humanitarian service and respect for senior citizens, particularly during the festive season when economic pressures are often heightened.
He noted that previous interventions had targeted religious institutions, traditional worship centres and other age groups, adding that the elderly were prioritised this year to enable them celebrate Christmas with dignity and comfort.
One of the beneficiaries, speaking on behalf of the women, expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, recalling earlier support received from Otunba Abegunde following the death of her son, an immigration officer who passed away in April.
She described the intervention as compassionate and deeply reassuring.
Another recipient praised the philanthropist for what she called his consistent concern for community welfare, urging that future programmes also consider unemployed graduates within Emure Ekiti.
The distribution exercise was conducted at designated halls and convergence points across the four quarters of the community.
Otunba Abegunde also announced the establishment of the Otunba Olumide Abegunde Foundation, a platform created to strengthen and coordinate his humanitarian activities for faster and more effective outreach.
He assured community members that the foundation’s yuletide outreach in 2026 would be expanded in scale and improved in organisation.
