Lagos buyer alleges Lekki Gardens failed to deliver a fully paid ₦17.5m home and now demands extra ₦14m

A Lagos-based buyer, Benedict Adejinle, has accused Lekki Gardens of failing to deliver a fully paid property more than three years after payment.

Adejinle said he paid ₦17.5 million in full for a three-bedroom maisonette at Meridian Park Estate in January 2022.

He told the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) that the developer neither handed over the house nor issued title documents.

Adejinle said Lekki Gardens provisionally allocated him TMF4A-Unit 2 in December 2021. Delivery was promised for September 2022.

He said all delivery timelines failed, despite repeated assurances from the developer.

Adejinle alleged that although the house is now completed, the estate demanded an additional ₦14 million before handover.

He said the extra charge was never part of the original agreement.

“I paid in full since 2022. I am still a tenant,” Adejinle said.

He explained that the developer later claimed the three-bedroom unit was built as a four-bedroom by mistake.

According to him, Lekki Gardens asked him to pay more, raising the cost to about ₦21 million, excluding statutory charges.

Adejinle said he rejected the demand and agreed only to pay statutory levies.

He added that the company later offered a 50 per cent concession on the extra ₦14 million, which he declined.

Frustrated by delays, Adejinle said he petitioned LASRERA and the FCCPC.

He said the matter was later referred to the EFCC, after which the developer showed limited progress.

Adejinle accused the company of threatening him with further costs if he failed to comply.

FIJ said attempts to get comments from Meridian Park Estate and its representatives were unsuccessful as of press time.
