Nasarawa APC adopts consensus to select party officials at all levels ahead of congresses, aiming to promote unity and internal stability

The All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State on Tuesday agreed to adopt consensus as the method for selecting party officials at ward, local government, state and national levels ahead of its forthcoming congresses.

The decision was reached at an expanded meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Government House in Lafia, bringing together party leaders, elected officials and key stakeholders.

At the meeting, the party’s legal adviser moved a motion that was supported by Governor Abdullahi Sule, allowing non executive members to participate in the deliberations, a step that broadened the consultation process.

The State Chairman of the APC, Dr Aliyu Bello, then invited Hon Hassan Abubakar Nalaraba, who represents the Awe Doma Keana Federal Constituency and is a member of the state executive, to formally move the substantive motion on consensus.

Hon Hassan Abubakar Nalaraba said the council should resolve to adopt consensus as the preferred mode for selecting party officials, provided the process was transparent and voluntary among all stakeholders.

The Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Prof Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, seconded the motion.

Former Nasarawa State governor and former APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, conducted a voice vote, and the decision was approved unanimously.

In his opening remarks, Dr Bello said the meeting was convened to brief party leaders on recent changes within the APC under the new national leadership, noting that the party was enjoying wider acceptance and continued to attract defectors.

Governor Abdullahi Sule welcomed the adoption of consensus, describing it as a positive and stabilising step that would reduce internal tensions and promote peace within the party.

Governor Abdullahi Sule also reaffirmed his support for zoning, saying it had played an important role in his own emergence as governor and had contributed to political stability in the state.

The governor further highlighted what he described as strong economic and fiscal performance, saying 2025 had been the most resource rich year for Nasarawa State so far.
