In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late Mbanefo as an accounting icon, seasoned administrator, and elder statesman whose life was defined by integrity, hard work, and patriotism.

Chief Mbanefo served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and held the position of Pro-Chancellor at leading universities, including the University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University, and Ahmadu Bello University.

He was also a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.

“Chief Mbanefo belonged to one of the finest stocks of Nigeria’s elder statesmen, whose professional excellence and ethical standards left enduring footprints in national development,” President Tinubu said.
