Defence minister Musa credits God for unlikely rise

Defence Minister Christopher Musa says divine intervention shaped his rise to national leadership, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and united

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), has attributed his rise to national leadership to divine intervention, saying God lifted him at a time when circumstances appeared firmly stacked against him.

General Musa shared the testimony during a recent service at the Conquerors Global Assembly in Abuja, according to footage monitored by Church Times and circulated on social media on Sunday.

The minister attended the service with his wife and expressed gratitude to the founder of the church, Bishop David Abioye, and his wife, while offering prayers for the continued growth of the ministry.

Addressing the congregation, General Musa urged worshippers not to lose hope, describing faith as a stabilising force in difficult times.

Reflecting on events leading to his appointment, he said attempts to undermine him ultimately failed, adding that divine support turned adversity into elevation.

He told the congregation that challenges were necessary for growth, stressing that strength is built through hardship rather than ease.

The minister said Nigerians must remain united, noting that collective resilience, guided by faith, was essential for national progress.

General Musa also warned against persistent negative narratives about Nigeria, arguing that constant criticism weakens the country’s resolve and global image.

He further urged Christians to practise the values they profess, saying real impact comes from living out one’s beliefs rather than mere declarations.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated General Musa as Minister of Defence on December 2, replacing Mohammed Badaru, who resigned on health grounds.

The President said at the time that the appointment reflected confidence in Musa’s capacity to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework.

General Musa was sworn in two days later, marking his transition from military leadership to cabinet responsibility.
