Anthony Joshua narrowly survived a fatal road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Here’s a look at other Nigerian celebrities who have escaped serious car crashes

World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped death on Monday, December 9, after a road accident along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway near the Makun axis of Ogun State.

The accident involved a sport utility vehicle traveling from Lagos to Sagamu and tragically claimed the lives of two male foreign nationals.

The Ogun State Government confirmed that the victims’ remains have been deposited at the Livewell Mortuary in Sagamu.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, offered condolences to the families, friends, and associates of the deceased while noting that authorities are investigating the incident.

Nigerian Celebrities Who Survived Car Accidents

Several Nigerian entertainers have previously survived near-fatal road accidents:

1. Harrysong On June 24, 2016, the Afro-pop singer survived a crash while traveling from Owerri to Lagos for Project Fame Season 9’s opening gala.

He thanked God for sparing his life on Instagram.

2. Burna Boy The Grammy-winning artist survived a Ferrari 458 crash in Lekki, Lagos, on February 26, 2022, suffering only minor injuries.

3. Dunsin Oyekan On September 3, 2022, the gospel singer survived a crash on his way to Ibadan, Oyo State.

A crew member suffered minor injuries.

4. Sensational Bamidele On December 2, 2022, the gospel singer survived a head-on collision in Rivers State that caused his vehicle to somersault eight times.

5. CDQ Nigerian rapper Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf survived a crash in Lagos on August 15, 2023, though his car was severely damaged.

6. Bukola Arugba The Nollywood actress survived a serious crash on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos, in December 2023, a day before her birthday.

7. Victor Boniface The Super Eagles striker survived a crash hours after a Bundesliga win with Leverkusen.

He shared images of the destroyed vehicle on social media, attributing his survival to divine protection.

Anthony Joshua’s escape from the accident highlights the ongoing road safety challenges in Nigeria, underscoring the need for increased vigilance and improved infrastructure.
