NNPP Kano Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa rejects expulsion attempt by ward executives, affirming his leadership and commitment to party unity

Hashimu Dungurawa, the Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), has reaffirmed his position as the legitimate leader of the party in the state, dismissing a purported expulsion by executives of Gargari Ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.

In a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday, Dungurawa described the ward’s resolution to remove him as unjustified and insisted that the executives lacked the authority to override his mandate as a member of the party’s National Executive Committee.

“This is not their right to expel me. I am also a member of the National Executive Committee of the party, and they cannot override that authority,” Dungurawa said, expressing surprise over the alleged expulsion.

The chairman warned that legal action would be taken against individuals claiming to be party leaders. “We will arrest them for impersonation for parading themselves as leaders of the NNPP,” he added.

The dispute follows a resolution signed by 27 Gargari Ward executive members citing allegations of creating divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failure to pay party dues, and making abusive remarks against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Dungurawa described the claims as baseless and reiterated his commitment to the NNPP’s ideals and unity.

“Since the appeal I made to Governor Yusuf not to dump the party, there has been development. God willing, he will not defect,” he said, hinting at a possible positive outcome regarding the governor’s political direction.

Kano State NNPP has recently faced internal tensions, particularly amid rumours of the governor potentially defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparking mixed reactions among party members.

Dungurawa urged NNPP members to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on strengthening the party in Kano State, stressing that leadership disputes would be resolved in line with the party’s constitution.
