The discovery was confirmed on Sunday by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement issued in Ibadan.

He said the items were found concealed among passengers’ luggage in a commercial vehicle intercepted near the Guru Maharaji Village axis of the expressway.

According to the statement, the vehicle was travelling from Lagos to Osogbo when it was stopped by patrol officers. A search led to the recovery of a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be human remains.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was apprehended at the scene. Police said investigations have commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the recovered items, with inquiries extended beyond Oyo State to identify and arrest all persons linked to the incident.

Osifeso said the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, adding that the case was being handled with diligence and professionalism.

The police spokesman reassured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring public safety and bringing offenders to justice.

He urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information.

In a related development, the Oyo State Police Command also confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan.

The incident was reported at the Akanran Police Division.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a disagreement between two casual workers escalated into a violent confrontation.

Osifeso said a 22-year-old man, Lawal Ibrahim, allegedly stabbed Raimi Ige, aged 18, with a broken bottle during the altercation.

The victim sustained fatal injuries and later died while being taken to hospital. The suspect was arrested, while the body was deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Given the severity of the offence, the Commissioner of Police ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for a thorough investigation. Police said the suspect would be charged to court after the inquiry.

The command reminded residents that emergencies can be reported through the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free line 615, or via the control room numbers 08081768614 and 07055495413.
