The trial of Adeniyi Kayode, driver in fatal crash that killed Anthony Joshua’s friends, has been adjourned to February 25, 2026

The trial of 46-year-old driver Adeniyi Kayode, involved in the accident that killed Anthony Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, has been adjourned to February 25, 2026.

The case, scheduled at Sagamu Magistrate Court, was postponed after prosecuting counsel Richard Nigiwe said only three of four witnesses were present.

He added the adjournment would allow the prosecution to duplicate the case file and submit it to the Attorney General through the Department of Public Prosecution for advice.

Defence counsel Olalekan Abiodun objected, arguing the prosecution had sufficient time to prepare.

The magistrate ruled the adjournment necessary in the interest of justice.

The incident occurred on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when Kayode’s Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck, killing Ayodele and Ghami. Both Anthony Joshua and Kayode sustained minor injuries.

Kayode, facing four charges including dangerous and negligent driving and driving without a valid licence, was remanded in custody on January 2, 2026, before being granted bail of N5 million with two sureties.

He remains remanded until his bail conditions are fulfilled.

A funeral prayer service for the victims was held on January 4 at the London Central Mosque.

Prior to repatriation, Joshua and his mother visited a Lagos funeral home to pay respects.

The next hearing is set for February 25, 2026, as the prosecution completes the required legal procedures.
