Glo’s network expansion accelerates amid NCC service quality push

NCC Ookla Reports show how Glo’s fibre investment and infrastructure depth deliver strong speeds, coverage and user experience across Nigeria

Nigeria’s digital transformation is gaining momentum as the Nigerian Communications Commission and Globacom advance a partnership centred on transparency, sustained infrastructure investment and consumer confidence.

Central to this shift are the NCC Industry Performance Reports developed with global network analytics firm Ookla under the Quality of Service and Quality of Experience crowdsourcing project.

Published quarterly, the reports provide independent, data driven assessments of network speed, coverage and everyday user experience across operators, regions and states.

An NCC official described the reports as bringing “sunlight and substance” to the telecoms space, giving consumers objective insight while pushing operators to compete on measurable performance rather than advertising claims.

Within this more transparent environment, Globacom has stood out for the depth of its infrastructure and long term national footprint.

The company’s approach prioritises large scale fibre deployment, resilient backhaul and steady upgrades to radio access and core networks.

A senior Glo executive said the company’s philosophy is built around longevity rather than visibility.

“We invest as if Nigeria’s tomorrow depends on what we build today because it does. Our goal is not to be loud, but to be lasting.”

Findings from the NCC Ookla Reports indicate that Glo’s extensive fibre to site deployment and intelligent traffic management deliver consistent speeds, lower latency and dependable performance in everyday use.

The reports also assess connectivity along highways and transit routes that support trade and mobility.

In this area, Glo’s fibre density and route redundancy translate into fewer dropped calls and smoother data sessions for subscribers on the move.

In examining urban and rural performance gaps, the reports note that continued fibre extension and base station modernisation are improving connectivity in previously underserved communities.

Areas once known for weak signals are gradually achieving stable digital access.

The NCC’s assessment of next generation networks, described as a 5G reality check, focuses on actual user experience rather than nominal coverage.

Glo’s strategy of strengthening 4G infrastructure and fibre fed sites before scaling 5G deployment positions it for more practical and inclusive expansion.
