The accident occurred on February 4, 2026, along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

The journalists were part of an official North East Development Commission delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari.

The delegation was in Bauchi State for the commissioning and handover of completed NEDC projects to the Bauchi State Government.

The crash happened shortly after the team commissioned a Government Secondary School project in Yelwan Duguri.

Several reporters and cameramen sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident.

The injured journalists were initially taken to Yelwan Duguri General Hospital for emergency medical attention.

Some of the victims were later transferred to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital and the Bauchi Specialist Hospital for further treatment.

Those affected include journalists from Channels Television, African Independent Television, the Nigerian Television Authority, Arise Television, and members of the Correspondents’ Chapel from other media organisations.

The incident has raised renewed concerns over road safety during official project tours involving large media contingents.
