Isaac Satlat killed in South Africa: 22-year-old Nigerian student and Bolt driver allegedly hijacked in Pretoria West; suspect arrested by police

A 22-year-old Nigerian student, Isaac Satlat, was allegedly killed in Pretoria, South Africa, weeks before his scheduled graduation.

The incident occurred on February 11, 2026, in Pretoria West. Satlat, who was reportedly working as a driver on the Bolt platform to support himself, was allegedly hijacked and strangled by a male and female passenger who had booked a ride through the app.

Authorities said a dashboard camera in the vehicle reportedly captured the attack. His body and the hijacked vehicle were later discovered several kilometres away in Moshongo, Atteridgeville.

The killing has sparked outrage, particularly among members of the Nigerian community, and renewed concerns about the safety of foreign nationals working in the gig economy in South Africa.

Police in Gauteng Province have confirmed the arrest of a female suspect in connection with the crime. She is expected to face charges including murder and car hijacking and is due to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court.

Law enforcement authorities indicated that further arrests may follow as investigations continue.

Friends and associates described Satlat as a dedicated student preparing to graduate next month, with plans to relocate to Canada for further studies.

His death has prompted tributes from Nigerians at home and abroad, who have called for justice and improved protection for migrant workers.
