Eriata Ese Nigerian vendors face criticism as the actress exposes outrageous markups on everyday goods online

Nollywood actress Eriata Ese has publicly criticised Nigerian business owners for charging exorbitant prices on everyday goods, describing the trend as “worse than fraud.”

Ese shared her concerns on social media following a recent experience with a vendor.

The actress recounted attempting to purchase removable veneers she found online for $150, only to be quoted 1.1 million Naira by a local vendor.

She noted that the same item was being sold for 800,000 to 850,000 Naira on Instagram, prompting her to check Chinese online stores, where it retails for the original $150.

“I don’t know why some Nigerian business owners act worse than yahoo boys,” Ese wrote.

“Apparently I made inquiries because I wanted to get one and I was charged 1.1m. Out of curiosity, I went to a China app just to check if I’d see it there, only to realise it’s being sold for $150. If you like tell me it’s not the same thing, no wahala. I won’t argue. You are correct.”

Ese lamented that such pricing practices have become a common trend, expressing frustration over what she sees as opportunistic behaviour.

Her post has sparked conversations online about the ethics of markups and the need for transparency in Nigerian retail markets.
