UEFA imposes Galatasaray fans ban and €40,000 fine after crowd trouble, barring supporters from travelling to Liverpool for UCL Round of 16

UEFA has banned Galatasaray supporters from attending the club’s Champions League Round of 16 away match against Liverpool at Anfield. The announcement was confirmed by UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee on March 4, 2026.

The Turkish side were sanctioned following crowd disturbances during their recent playoff fixture against Juventus in Turin.

The incidents, which involved pyrotechnics in the stands, prompted UEFA to impose a €40,000 fine and require Galatasaray to play their next away match without fans.

Galatasaray appealed the decision, but the Appeals Body rejected the challenge, ensuring the ban will be enforced for the March 18 clash in Merseyside.

The Istanbul-based club secured its place in the last 16 after a thrilling 7-5 aggregate victory over Juventus, setting up the high-profile encounter with the Reds.

UEFA’s ruling is expected to have a significant impact on the atmosphere in Anfield, with the absence of Galatasaray supporters removing a potential source of tension.

The club’s management has yet to comment publicly on the enforcement of the ban, while Liverpool fans anticipate a lively home crowd for the second leg.

UEFA continues to emphasise strict compliance with fan conduct regulations to ensure safety and fairness in European competitions.
