Do2dtun blasts fake death claim

Do2dtun condemns a viral fake post claiming Adekunle Gold and Simi’s daughter had died, accusing the poster of chasing engagement and ad revenue on X

Nigerian media personality Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, has strongly condemned a viral social media post that falsely claimed the daughter of singers Adekunle Gold and Simi had died.

The controversial post, shared on X by a user identified as @boutmoneey12, alleged that the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Deja, had died from Canavan disease, a rare genetic disorder.

The message also included what appeared to be a fabricated screenshot from Adekunle Gold’s Instagram page offering condolences.

Reacting to the claim, Do2dtun criticised the post as a desperate attempt to generate engagement and profit from the platform’s ad-revenue system introduced under Elon Musk.

“All for Elon money right! No be all engagement dey bring peace. This one go choke you. What sort of nonsense is this? How is this even possible that you had the audacity to do this? All for engagement?” he wrote.

The claim was quickly flagged as misinformation through community notes on X, with users pointing out that no credible media outlet had reported such a tragedy.

Observers also noted that the couple’s verified social media pages still contained recent posts showing their family together.

The incident sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for the arrest of the user who shared the false report. Several users also criticised the poster for refusing to delete the message despite public backlash.

The episode has reignited discussions about misinformation and the dangers of spreading unverified claims on social media, particularly when they involve children and public figures.
