Asherkine viral video criticism grows as the Nigerian content creator defends his clip with an Ogun-based woman against staging allegations

Nigerian content creator Asherkine has responded to growing online criticism over a viral video featuring a young woman identified as Chiamaka Clare, insisting the clip reflects a genuine interaction rather than staged content.

The video, which surfaced online earlier this week, shows Asherkine meeting the 21 year old woman working at a restaurant in Ogun State.

In the footage, the content creator treats her to a shopping spree, a surprise trip to Cape Town, and several luxury experiences including a new head tattoo.

Initially praised by many viewers for its generous gesture, the video later attracted scrutiny after some social media users on X claimed the scenario may have been staged.

Critics pointed to the woman’s social media profile, arguing that she already appeared familiar with luxury travel and fashion.

The speculation prompted the Asherkine viral video criticism that quickly spread across online platforms.

Some users also suggested the content creator and the woman may have known each other before filming the video.

Responding in a statement on his X account, Asherkine rejected the allegations and clarified that the video documented a week long interaction following their first meeting.

Asherkine explained that while many of his videos capture events within a single day, the latest clip was filmed across several days to document the experience more fully.

The content creator also shared details about his own journey, describing how he started filming entertainers at events at the age of 17 while studying near University of Lagos.

According to Asherkine, those early efforts eventually led to professional opportunities documenting artists such as Asake and Olamide.

Asherkine said the video aimed to highlight the determination of young Nigerians striving to improve their lives.

The creator also criticised attempts to discredit the woman featured in the clip, noting that many young people commute between neighbouring states such as Lagos and Ogun in search of opportunities.

Despite the explanation, reactions online remain mixed. While some supporters praised Asherkine for addressing the controversy and defended the impact of his videos, others maintained doubts about the authenticity of the storyline.

The debate surrounding the Asherkine viral video criticism reflects the intense scrutiny faced by influencers whose philanthropic style content often blurs the line between storytelling and reality.
